HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

The girls are now 10 months old. We can't believe how fast the time has gone. Lila has 2 teeth now and Zella has one. They can each stand on their own for a brief moment, Zella stands just a little bit longer.
Over the last few weeks, since the family reunion, the girls got sick for the second time with a cold. Daddy went on a business trip to California and came home sick too. Finally, everybody is well and getting better sleep.

Today we took the girls to the Dallas Zoo. They seemed to really like the flamingos, probably because they were "pretty in pink." They also liked the kangaroos or anything that moved or was big. We are looking forward to taking them many times again as they grow.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Where'd the Time Go?

Wow. Somehow it's been over a month since we posted last. Where does the time go?

So, obviously, a lot has happened in the last month - is there ever an uneventful week when you have twins ;-)

They had their 9 month checkup, and Lila is 15lbs and Zella is 17lbs! They are growing so fast!

The girls are getting around great crawling, and they are pulling up every chance they get, practicing their standing. Every now and then one of them will let go thinking that they will be able to balance on their own (usually whenever Mommy and Daddy are out of arm's reach), only to fall flat on their face or back when they can't. As much as we hate to see them fall and get hurt, I guess the school of hard knocks is still one of the best teachers.

Last week, Lila got her first tooth! And her second is already showing below the gums. She's constantly feeling at her tooth with her finger, like she doesn't quite know what to think of it. We don't see any teeth showing under Zella's gums yet, but I'm sure they'll probably surprise us and pop out anytime too!

Just a couple of days ago, the girls started chasing each other around the room, laughing and giggling all the while. It was the cutest thing we've ever seen. Now they love (!) this game, and especially love it when Mommy gets on her hands and knees and chases them too! Tonight, on the way to bed, they raced up the stairs with Mommy chasing them (yes, Daddy was there too, making sure no one fell backwards). That's the second time that they made it ALL the way up the stairs (quite a long way for little arms and legs!). Now they just need to figure out how to go down (the slow way; I'm sure they could figure out the quick way ;-) but that one would hurt a little...).

Last night, we posted some new pictures, so feel free to go check them out.

Today we went to Oklahoma for their first (annual) Family Reunion at Lake Murray. Obviously everyone was oohing and ahhing over them :-) They had a great time too, studying all of their relatives and trying to figure out who looked most like Daddy ;-) We enjoyed it too, but wish that we could have visited with everyone more (we were a little too busy with babies).

On the way home, we stopped at Whataburger, and Zella decided she wanted to try a bite of Daddy's chicken strip, so she did! Lila decided she wanted in on the action too, but then decided that chicken was to bland for her Princess taste buds ;-) She'd rather stick to her fruit and sweet potatoes.

Well, we're EXHAUSTED! So we're going to bed now.

Hopefully it won't be another month before we post again!

Labor Day

We have all been sick for the last week. Last Tuesday Lila showed symptoms of a cold and then before I knew it we all had what she did. It has been an awful week. Luckily the girls have great grandmas and they came over to help us however they could.

If that was not bad enough, I got mastitis again today for the third time, so once it clears up I am going to start weaning them. I do not ever want to go through it again. It is terrible!!!

Our Weekend

We went to the NICU reunion on Saturday and got to see all the doctors and nurses that took care of Lila and Zella during that very, very long first month. On Sunday, after church, Grandma and Grandpa Shaw brought us lunch and watched the girls while we painted their new playroom. We painted it a dusty/aqua blue. We love it, it is amazing what a big difference a little color can make.

The girls are now 8 months old! They are just so amazing to us and we feel so blessed that God has entrusted us with these 2 awesome baby girls!

Mobile Babies

Lila is now crawling just as much as her sister. They are both sitting (and falling over) on their own.

We're noticing that Lila is more cautious than her sister, which might be why it takes her a few days longer to do the "big milestone" things than her sister. Lila will spend more time and think about what she is going to do before she does it. Zella, on the other hand, is a dare-devil; she'll "Just Do It." [tm] ;-)

Case in point, when Zella decided to crawl, she'd just start trying, and would manage two steps before she would fall. Lila seemed to analyze how to crawl (distance, wind velocity, etc.), and then started crawling four steps at a time before she would fall.

We're still working on baby-proofing. We're considering running bubble-wrap around all the walls, furniture, etc. :-) The thought crossed our mind after Zella's incident yesterday when she was crawling, tipped over, and hit the wall with her head. She cried, but was fine after a few minutes (more so than us).

We'll probably post more pictures after this weekend.

Wow! What a Day!

Today was a big milestone for both girls! Lila sat up by herself for the first time today! And Zella actually crawled forward several steps today! Zella sat up by herself for the first time last week. They both have been able to be put in a sitting position and remain for a little bit (before tipping over), but they now know how to get in the sitting position.

We are so proud, but now we -really- have to baby-proof the house. They are now -MOBILE-!!!

First Post (Yeah!)

It only took us 7 months to create a blog! Better late than never!

The girls are doing awesome! Zella is 16 lbs, and Lila is 14.5 lbs (-still- a pound and a half apart! I think I'm noticing a trend). They can both sit by themselves (briefly) and they are -almost- crawling. They rock on their knees and roll wherever they want to go. Sometimes they'll even crawl sideways like a crab (what a sight!). Zella has discovered her voice, and can be very loud! Lila is often content just watching her sister.

Everyone says that they are so cute and seem very alert and inquisitive, and our favorite comment is that they look like Gerber babies - is that a good or bad thing ;)

We love being parents, and they definitely keep us very busy (and they aren't even crawling yet!) No need to spend money on entertainment :) - not that we could anyways ;)

Thankfully, Mommy is still nursing so we aren't spending money on formula yet (just more food for Mommy), but we do go through at least 16 diapers a day (that's 112 a week, or 480 a month!). Thanks Grandma Shaw for helping here!

Special thanks to our family (including our church family) and friends! We love y'all, and we sincerely appreciate everything everyone has done for us!

Well, it is late, and the girls will be up in 5 hours, so Good Night and God Bless!
